The mining sector is critical in the EU’s transition to a climate-neutral and digital economy, as it sets the basis for industrial production processes and the development of strategic sectors, including renewable energy, electric mobility, defence and aerospace, and digital technologies.

Mining is a vital sector in Latin American economies, delivering revenues needed for financing public investment in sustainable development. Moreover, the Latin American countries of the Partnership are keen to attract EU investment and cutting-edge technologies to modernise their mining industries and reduce the negative impacts of mining on the environment and local communities.

Technological innovation is essential in ensuring energy-efficient and low-carbon mining and processing that meets the growing demand for raw materials while advancing sustainable development goals.

The webinar will facilitate exchanges at the forefront of this field and stimulate discussion on how the EU approaches sustainable development in the mining context, including what technologies EU companies use in different processes of the production line. It will also showcase successful case studies of energy-efficient and low-carbon mining from Latin American companies and outline opportunities for EU-Latin American value chain integration and common action.

The webinar will bring together EU and Latin American authorities, regional industry and business representatives, academia, geological surveys and other relevant entities, and provide a forum to share experiences and best practices.
