ETP SMR has published two new position papers addressing the skills, education, and innovation challenges facing Europe’s mineral raw materials sector.

The papers highlight the importance of developing a strong and future-ready workforce to support the implementation of the Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA) and strengthen Europe’s competitiveness, resilience, and strategic autonomy.

The first paper focuses on the need for greater support for specialised higher education programmes and increased research and innovation funding across the raw materials value chain. The second emphasizes the importance of vocational training, applied engineering skills, lifelong learning, and reskilling to address growing workforce shortages.

Together, the two papers underline that investment in both people and innovation is essential to securing a sustainable and competitive future for Europe’s mineral raw materials sector.
